Flint Stephens mage | male | 22 | august 4 | heterosexual ☄ abilities In terms of Earth Mages, Flint falls under the dense specialization, though that doesn’t insinuate any sort of expertise. At best, Flint can lift a 15-pound rock with only his mind, anything bigger than that he can barely lift off the ground. He is much more capable of lifting stones with his hands than his powers. That is as advanced as his abilities can get currently. He mostly reserves his powers for parlour tricks, such as spinning pebbles in the air, which he thinks is quite impressive.
☄ role Flint is one of the two major artists behind the hip new pop sensation Pop Rocks. He’s the band’s drummer in addition to part-time vocalist and song writer. Flint’s face should be quite recognizable among pop culture geeks, whether they’re groaning over his cheesy music or fangirling within his wake.
In terms of solo work, Flint is known for his religious albums, being a follower of the Mettite faith. He is lesser known for this work, but hardcore fans would know this factoid if they were asked in some sort of trivia game. Because of this, Flint has some very strong ties to the Mettite religion, often rumoured that they’re his true paycheck at the end of the day and with plenty of conspiracy theories placing him as a sort of gateway introduction to young aged girls with malleable religious outlooks. Be that as it may, Flint is a true believer and has been since a young age.
☄ appearance Flint’s general physique is quite eye-catching, especially for those that get weak in the knees for a well toned male body. His muscular structure is equal to that of a less bulky bodybuilder. His general looks give the impression that he is of Scandinavian descent, a fresh and sleek trim of dirty blond hair lining the top of his head. It doesn’t hide much of his face considering that he often styles it as a bun atop his head. Along with his broad shoulders and build, Flint stands at a rather hefty 6’1”, however, his size doesn’t often lend him to any intimidation factor considering that he can often be found with a doofy expression on his face.
Speaking of, Flint has a relatively recognizable face, one very fitting for a celebrity. Most dominant is his broad solid chin and a sharp triangular soul patch within the dip between his lower lip and chin. Moving up his face, he has a somewhat wide, but flat nose, though more strikingly are his earthly brown eyes. His brow line juts out a bit further with very strong bones, matching that of his cheekbones.
His attire often consists of cool colours, blues especially. His tops are often plain from t-shirts to tank tops, though he can be occasionally found in band tees, specifically his. Of course, the shirts he wears seem to be two sizes too small for him, giving an illusion that he is more ripped than he is. Due to his plain shirts though, it is easy to make out his necklace flatly displayed on his chest. The trinket looks like a tiny meteorite. His tops are almost always tucked into his trousers, whether they be beaten up jeans or shorts, they are a bit looser fitting than his upper attire, though secured with a belt and his signature ‘Pop Rocks’ buckle. Just by looking at pockets, it can be noted that they are usually full, and yes, he often carries rocks in his pockets. Polished rocks to be more specific. They are often used for showboating, and sometimes he bounces them off his drums using his powers.
☄ personality First and foremost, Flint is a very gentle and kind soul. He is the first to hold faith in someone who is probably undeserving of it, and while some may call it naïve, Flint tries to see the best in people whenever he can. That often makes it seem like his well of forgiveness is bottomless, but that is not always the case. When faced with an aggressor he’s not exactly a pushover and is by no means a pacifist. He is willing to give the benefit of the doubt, but if personal danger is involved he will certainly think twice. In which case, he can easily be fooled by friends or family because he has faith in those who are close to him, even if their statements lack any evidence.
While that side of him is most dominant, he can be often written off as a frat boy stereotype due to his fame and affinity for parties. His band mates can very easily manipulate him to preform stupid acts because he enjoys that attention, even if the tabloid journalists tear him to pieces the next day.
Fame and fortune has meshed with his life decently well so far, but it has given him a few anxieties along with it. The spotlight that has been put on him does make him feel like he’s a target at times. While he likes to believe in the good of humanity, he isn’t ignorant of the bad, so he is often terrified of people stealing from him or worse. He doesn’t enjoy walking in bad parts of town at night, especially alone and has several security features implanted in his house. On top of that, he doesn’t carry all that much money around with him, mostly because his pockets are full of rocks already. In addition to that, shifters gross him out. He can’t pinpoint the reason why and it isn’t like he actively antagonizes them, he just has a gut reaction of disgust when he watches them transform and upon learning that someone is a shifter, his opinion of them lessens, though that doesn’t stop him from being able to develop bonds with them, just not close bonds. Hybrids with the ability to change into an animal form would also fall into this category, whether they have mage powers as well or not.
As stated above, Flint is gentle and quick to forgive, however, that doesn’t mean that making him angry is impossible. One quick way to infuriate him is to try and steal from him. While it is one of his greatest fears, catching someone in the act is quick to get his blood boiling. A well-placed sob story is a quick way to diffuse the situation, but outside of that, he will be quick to take law into his own hands to restrain or teach them a lesson through physical force (assuming they are weaker than him). He is incredibly patient with hecklers, if he is the target. He is not as tolerant when they start picking on his bandmates or friends. As with most things, he will gently try to diffuse the situation, but if they continue for too long his patience will wear thin. In terms of personality traits though, he is tolerant of the worst of people, though doesn’t put up with deserters or people who are quicker to blame others for their problems.
☄ strengths
01.) Flint is stronger than the average person, though nothing remotely super human. On top of that, he is in decent physical condition, so extended amount of activity doesn’t wear him down too easily.
02.) Being the type of person who would sooner put someone else before himself, Flint is a very considerate to others, thus is incredibly helpful to those he barely knows. His entire career is based on entertaining others after all.
03.) While his mage powers leave much to be desired, Flint has room for improvement. He can move earth and rocks with his mind, just not a lot. It can improve his drumming capabilities since he can use a set of rocks to act as extra drumsticks. ☄ weaknesses
01.) While he spends a lot of time at the gym and he is stronger than the average person, his musculature makes his true potential quite deceptive. Flint is not as strong as he looks considering that his bulk is strictly for show.
02.) Being that he is easy to believe/accept whatever he is told, it makes him easily manipulated. Not to mention that he can be pressured to do anything someone wants if he thinks its funny and it doesn’t harm anyone directly.
03.) In a world of mages, shifters, and powered hybrids, Flint’s parlour tricks are inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. In fact, in a physical confrontation, he is more likely to injure someone by throwing rocks at them with his bare hands rather than his powers. ☄ history Flint was born on a water plantation, a raft-like civilization that was stationed in the pacific ocean, heavily populated by water mages who made a living converting the salty sea water into drinkable freshwater for the rest of the world to consume. His mother being one such mage raised him alone as his father had abandoned and divorced her a couple months into her pregnancy. As far as he could tell anyways, her mother had many conflicting stories about what happened to his father that she would tell both him and other people, but the stories often incorporated that to some degree. He remained an only child, though his mother had several different partners over the years, none stayed for longer than a handful of years.
Due to their location, there wasn’t any Earth mages to teach Flint proper, not to mention that they didn’t know what his birth element was until he was ten. As such, Flint spent most of his time being taught by Water mages and couldn’t figure out why he wasn’t able to control water like everyone else. As such, he turned to non-magic related activities, most specifically music.
Over time, it came to a matter of logical deduction that he was an Earth mage, though the middle of the ocean didn’t offer him much in terms of material to work with, as such Flint resorted to collecting rocks whenever he found them, getting some from relatives for birthdays. He attempted to transfer his knowledge of Water magic to his Earth magic, but it could only get him so far. So ultimately, he had to teach himself how to use his powers, though it didn’t bother him too much considering that his musical skills were far superior anyways.
Considering that he grew up in a struggling lower-middle class household with a single parent, Flint had desires to make it big in the music industry so that he could help his mother get by. Without any sort of connections to the big studios, he turned to the internet. He would upload a plethora of recording sessions onto Vimitube, not being anywhere close to the forefront of the website’s attention, but he got a cult following with time. He would do covers to popular songs and even if he didn’t play them to perfection, he was still a minor playing his heart out, which middle aged moms across the world could appreciate and adore.
By the time he was 15, Flint began to be recognized by a plethora of talent agencies, more specifically reality tv show hosts that would request that he partake in talent competitions. He never got very far and had minimal screen time, but the experience was quite exciting for him non the less. Even with so little as 10 seconds in the background of a shot, it made him believe he was a hit sensation. This grew his confidence immensely and by the age of 17 he was convinced that he could make it on his own, though promised that he would help fund his mother whenever he could.
Moving into New Rome, he played the instrumentals for many lesser known bands that at best got a one hit-wonder. He has cycled through many bandmates over time and remains in contact with some, in fact he is well versed in New Rome’s music scene. He’s run the gambit from Heavy Metal to calm religious tunes, though strived to make his own music.
Flint hit it big around his 21st birthday when he got a call from Smash Records, the biggest corporate big wig in town when it comes to the music industry. They requested his talent and boyish good looks to start up the newest and biggest pop sensation around ‘Pop Rocks.’ The deal consisted of two hit singles that would be written by the corporate cronies and the rest of the album would be split between him and his partner in terms of creative freedom. If they were a success, they would discuss solo albums.
The summer hit and ‘Baby, you my Baby’ and ‘Party Like we’re Partying’ were at the top of the charts. Merchandise came next and their success has only been increasing ever since. As promised, Flint was given his chance to craft a solo-album, which he is working toward on the side. Flint can be often seen writing his music next to the Temple of Meteora as he insists that he can’t write it anywhere else.
