In the haze of the brawl, her opponent managed to knock Kumari back, so much so that she was completely flipped over. Amongst the jeers and cheers of the crowd, the mighty Atlas Beetle took a few calming breaths and soon she perceived silence within the chaos. Calmly yet quickly, the beetle rocked itself to gain enough momentum to finally flip itself over, like she had rehearsed the act many times over. In that split second, her six legs touched the ground and she maneuvered herself well enough out of the way so that the stinger of her scorpion foe bounced off her armour-like shell.
As the arachnid perceived its failure, it scurried backward, covering its face with its pincers like a boxer. Kumari called their bluff, stampeding forward before either of them could perceive what was going on. She was charging before she even realized she was doing it, instinctively bowing her head to gore her opposition with her trademark horns. The scorpion’s pincer flinched forward, trying to grab at Kumari’s horn, but she managed to flick her head out of the way in time and continued to bustle forward like a militant ant. Her lower horn slid underneath the arachnid’s thorax while the upper two clinched it in place. With all her might, she began to lift her opponent, the front half of its body slowly elevating as its pincers began to flail wildly.
While she was paying no mind to the audience, Kumari could hear a few chanting “flip! Flip!” even before she had gotten a hold on her opponent. Seemed like they were familiar with her routine. Possibly fans, but most didn’t play favourites. It wasn’t like that televised garbage that everyone else in New Rome seemed to rave about.
Kumari reinforced her stance, digging her feet into the ground as she kept trying to flip her opponent over, but they were proving to be quite heavy. Nothing that she couldn’t brute force, but she wasn’t given the time to prove it. The scorpion corrected itself by ceasing its flailing and focusing where it snipped its claws. Attacking her shell did nothing, so it clamped down on her two upper horns and shoved her back. The tactic proved successful, knocking Kumari back, but they weren’t done yet. As a quick surprise to her, her opponent revved up and swiftly rammed her, body-checking her so hard that she slammed against the barriers on the outer ring of the tiny arena. It knocked the wind out of her, a swift shock to the senses that proved to be too much, added with the abuse she took during the first half of the match. After hitting the wall, she reverted to human form, easily dwarfing her adversary, but by that point the match was over.
Clutching her forehead to drown out the groggy fog, Kumari couldn’t make much sense of what was going on, though she was quite aware of her loss. She was more annoyed than anything else, though by the sound of the crowd it seemed like more were worse off than that. Sounds like she made some big spenders real mad, on the other hand, a lot more people sounded like they were happy with the result. She shook her head once or twice and straightened herself up, grabbing her rather hefty looking purse and disappearing into the crowd as they rushed forth to claim their wins from the bookie.
She wasn’t interested in sticking around for the whiners and the pushers that dropped their salary on her fight, so she slipped through the nearest alley and began to stumble her way through. She had a nasty headache brewing, being roughed up enough to not be seeing straight, that said, she was powering through anything that got into her way like a bulldozer. Trash cans, rubble, and general back alley garbage either fumbled underneath or around her feet if it got into her way.
Kumari released a heavy throaty sigh as her mind swirled in pain, so she paused at a nearby wall and began rummaging through her purse, trying to find something to relieve her pain, letting her guard down for a moment.
