society In New Rome, there are a select few jobs that most Mages and Shifters typically find themeselves occupying. While the world is broader than these roles, this thread will hopefully help you find what societal role your character can best fill. ☄ the government Many aspects of society in New Rome are funded and regulated by the Government. Because of this, there is a massive variety of careers individuals can have working for The Imperium.
01.) Policing & Public Service: Mages, animal-shifters and hybrids are capable of working for the police depending upon their personality and training. There are also a number of public service roles, such as Disaster Negation and social services.
02.) Education: Mage and Animal-shifter education is typically segregated, and because of this mages can only teach mages and shifters can only teach shifters. Educators are regulated by magic houses and shifter settlements rather than by The Imperium, but due to the importance of learning, are considered employees of the government.
03.) Medicine: Not every doctor has healing powers! A strong affinity for innovation and compassion are desired in the medical field, and so Mages and Shifters alike staff hospitals around the city.
04.) Archaeology: The Imperium finds the recovery of Old Earth artefacts to be of extreme importance, so many are employed as archaologists in all sorts of environments.
04.) Science: From innovation to discovery, continuing to improve upon society is the main goal of The Imperium. Most scientists are employed by the government, although there are a small number of private contractors. ☄ labor & business Although The Imperium places strict regulations on private businesses, still independent business flourishes in New Rome.
01.) Power Supply: Though the government distributes electricity, most of it is generated with the help of private contractors. The vast majority of people employed in the power sector are fire and light mages, although people of all types still find themselves with power jobs.
02.) Teleportation: The Tel Stations are run by the government, but staffed and managed by private contractors. Tel security is managed by The Imperium, but the Void Mages who bring people from station to station fall under the jurisdiction of each station's management.
03.) Market & Produce: Many people own their own businesses to distribute food and goods.
03.) Construction: All construction and revitilization contracts created by The Imperium are completed by private contractors.
03.) Hydrofarming: Produce is gathered in buildings filled with air and water rather than in farms on land. A more space and energy efficient method of farming, earth and water Mages are the most common employees of hydrofarms.
☄ liesure The sky is the limit when finding suitable careers, and with the government providing for most of its citizen's basic needs, people are free to follow their creative dreams, or spend their time contemplating the struggles of the world
01.) Entertainment: Those with creative aspirations can find themselves in many fields of entertainment, such as music and theatre. Recreating popular Old Earth plays and tales is a common pasttime.
02.) Crime: Despite the advantages of living in a forgiving, open-ended society, some people still find themselves in situations where crime is necessary to survive. Still others want to remake society in their preferred image.
03.) Religion: With religion an important aspect of daily life, some commit themselves to their dieties of choice and become monks and theologians.
